Warum diese wunderbare Stimme in Germoney immer noch einigermaßen unbekannt ist, liegt unter anderem auch daran, das sich leider bisher die deutschen Vertriebe schwer tun das englische NuJazz/Soul-Label TruThoughts angemessen zu vertreten. Eigentlich unverständlich, sind hier doch solch klasse Namen beheimatet wie Quantic, Nostalgia 77, TM Juke und Hint. Dieselben Leute, die sich auch der Produktion des KINNY Albums "Idle Forest Of Chit Chat" angenommen haben. Caitlin Simpson alias KINNY steht den Souldiven Alice Russell und Erykah Badu in Nichts nach. Rau, warm und raumfüllend schwebt und grooved die Lady souverän und elektrisierend durch alle Tracks des Albums. Das ein paar Stücke dieser Platte schon mal auf anderen Kollaborationen erschienen sind, schmälert den Genuss keineswegs, sondern macht noch mehr Appetit auf das Nachfolgealbum. - großmutter futziwolf

Bereits 2005 erschien die Kollaboration "Forgetting To Remember" mit dem norwegischen Produzenten Espen Horne auf Tru Thoughts. Vier Jahre später will Kinny in große Fußstapfen treten - und wird dabei tatkräftig unterstützt. Das halbe Produzenten-Roster des Labels ist angetreten, um "Idle Forest Of Chit Chat" den Stempel aufzudrücken. Darunter auch Alice Russell-Intimus TM Juke, auf dessen Handwerk mit "Damn" der stärkste Titel der Platte zurück geht. Die Arbeit hat sich gelohnt, "Idle Forest Of Chit Chat" beweist, dass die Schnittstelle zwischen NuJazz und NuSoul eben nicht so langweilig ist wie ihr Ruf. Kinny's Vielseitigkeit ist es geschuldet, dass "Idle Forest Of Chit Chat" über 45 Minuten dahinfließt, ohne beliebig oder belanglos zu werden. Ob flehend soulig ("Damn"), auf Latin getrimmt wie beim Quantic-Feature, Richtung Hip Hop schielend wie bei "Queen Of Boredness" oder über den groovigen "Forgetting To Remember"-Remix, Kinny macht überall eine gute Figur.

Eine Halbjamaikanerin und Halbindianerin, die in Kanada geboren wurde und eine klassische Opernsängerausbildung hat, deren Herz aber hauptsächlich für Reggae, Jazz und Soul schlägt. Sowas hört man nicht alle Tage, hat sich wohl auch Robert Luis gedacht und Kinny gemeinsam mit dem norwegischen Produzenten Espen Horne anhand eines vier Titel starken Demos direkt für Tru Thoughts gesignt.
Die Kanadierin und der Norweger treffen sich in seinem Heimatland. Während einer Tour mit ihrer ersten Band, der Reggae-Kapelle Third Eye Tribe, verliebt sich Caitlin Simpson so sehr in die Stadt Bergen, dass sie beschließt, von Vancouver in den Ort am Byfjord umzuziehen. Die extremen Jahreszeiten, der Friede, die Stille und die Nähe des Menschen zur Natur seien große Inspirationsquellen für sie.
Wie so oft in der Geschichte des Tru Thoughts-Rosters fallen die Früchte der Zusammenarbeit zunächst Quantic in die Hände, der das Demo gerne an seine Chefs weiterreicht. 2005 schließlich erscheint die Kollabo "Forgetting To Remember", die weltweit begeisterte Kritiken nach sich zieht. The first band Kinny performed with after cutting loose from the musical theatre world was Third Eye Tribe, who became well known and highly regarded in Canada and beyond for their electrifying live shows in which Kinny laid spontaneous, improvised vocals over electronic, dub and hip hop beats. On tour with the band in 2001, Kinny visited Bergen in Norway and loved the city so much that she moved there. Comparing Bergen to a Scandinavian version of her native Vancouver, Kinny finds inspiration and intrigue in the vibrant music scene, the extreme seasons and the peace and closeness to nature that abounds in sparsely populated countries.
In Norway, Kinny met and collaborated with the multi-talented Espen Horne (a producer, designer and professional goalkeeper) and the fruits of their labours fell into the hands of Quantic, who passed them on to Tru Thoughts A&R Robert Luis. This resulted in the release of Kinny And Horne's album 'Forgetting To Remember' on Tru Thoughts in 2005. The album gained rave reviews and brought Kinny's talent to the attention of the world's most respected musical minds and tastemakers : including Daddy G, who invited her to audition as a vocalist for Massive Attack; and Andy Smith (with whom she is currently working on a set of tracks for a potential collaborative project in the near future). Kinny became a regular visitor to the UK with gigs at The Big Chill, Cargo, Jazz Café, Native and across Europe. During this period she hooked up with a variety of producers, guesting on tracks by the likes of TM Juke, Diesler and Quantic.
